About Nokia Corporation

Nokia Corporation is a Finnish company that specializes in multinational telecommunications, consumer electronics, and information technology. Nokia was first founded in 1865, and their initial operations consisted of acting as a pulp mill company. In 1902, Nokia began to diversify their business, entering the realm of electricity generation. Around this time, Nokia began producing civilian and military respirators, and they formed partnerships with both Finnish Rubber Works and Kaapelitehdas.

In 1967, the three partner companies merged together to form Nokia Corporation, and their focus was set on electronics, rubber, forestry, and cable. By the next decade, Nokia also entered the radio and networking industry as well, and they supplied the Finnish defense forces with various military equipment. During the Cold War, Nokia developed various automatic telephone exchanges and robotics, and the 1980’s saw many acquisitions for the company. Towards the end of the 1980’s, however, Nokia began restructuring as they lost many of their divisions due to financial hardship.

To turn themselves around, Nokia placed a heavy emphasis on their mobile phone market division, and this allowed them to become a $4 billion company by 1999. With their mobile phone manufacturing capabilities, Nokia revolutionized the market by introducing camera phones and phones that could play mobile games. Leading into the present, Nokia has continued to focus primarily on the mobile phone market, working with various companies to develop new technologies. Currently, Nokia is preparing for the 5G mobile network jump with their line of mobile phones and technology.
