Vishay, or Vishay Intertechnology Inc., is an American manufacturer of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components. The company has manufacturing plants throughout the world in Israel, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Vishay produces rectifiers, diodes, MOSFETs (Metal Oxide Silicon Field Effect Transistor), optoelectronics, selected integrated circuits, resistors, capacitors, and inductors. Vishay is among the world’s leading manufacturers of power MOSFETs. They offer a broad range of power electronic applications, including portable information appliances, internet communications infrastructure, power integrated circuits, cell phones, and notebook computers. Vishay products are used throughout many different industries such as aerospace, automotive, computing, consumer, medical, military, power supplies, and telecommunications.

The company was founded in 1962 by Felix Zandman, beginning with the production of foil resistors and resistance strain gauges. Their first success came with their bulk metal resistor, which was widely used in the defense industry. This resistor cut down on time needed for navigational electronics to warm up, and brought increased accuracy to weapon guidance systems. By the 1970s, the company had a myriad of customers both foreign and domestic. Vishay entered the inductor market in the 1990s when they purchased Nytronics Inductors and similar businesses, growing their market to several sectors. This brought further success and increase of sales. Vishay continues to operate in these markets today and continues to acquire businesses.
